WALKING TALL

Blackjack Mulligan, my ALL TIME favorite wrestler. How are you, sir?

You were billed at 6'9" for a lot of your career, (in WCCW in 1989, Frank Dusek even said you were 6'11" ) but legit how tall are you?

- Ed Pardue

North Carolina

Ed, my barefoot height is 6' 6", but with the boots on about 6'8". Actually now only about

6'4" -  too many piledrivers from Andre!

Thanks. BJM

SWAMP FOX

What was the premise of the angle where Flair found you and Dusty and others around the camp fire in Florida? I thought it was funny that he had that suit on in the woods.

- Steve Clem

Spartanburg, SC

I was working in Florida, and Flair came down to recruit me to come back to the Mid-Atlantic to team with him to face Tully Blanchard and Wahoo McDaniel. Steve, I had the 30/30 loaded with live rounds and fired it off, they had to find Flair some fresh underwear! In another swamp story, we had a running feud with J.J. and Flair weekly and can't remember how and why, but we talked JJ and Flair out to the swamps! I know they found JJ the next morning on I-75, clothes ripped off and 5,000 mosquito bites!

Thanks. BJM

NWA TITLE

I was just wondering since you were such a big draw at the arenas, and boy I remember you could pack them in, were you ever considered to wear the NWA world title?

- David Nance
Kings Mtn. N.C.

It's a long story "book", but I will try! I had pre-arranged to join Lanza after the stabbing incident in Boston in 1971-72.  Went to work for the Sheik (Ed Farhat) out of Detroit and I just hated it.  I was told by Verne Gagne and Bruiser to work with Bobo Brazil and let him drop the title to me and we would open up opposition the next week in Detroit. Well, I told Bobo what was going down and didn’t show at Cobo Hall for the big swerve and into Detroit we went! Needles to say that finished my NWA days forever! Really didn't bother me, just didn’t fit in with that St.Louis crowd!

Thanks. BJM

THE DESTROYER

Hey Blackjack,

Your son-in-law, Mike Rotundo was trained for wrestling by Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer from Akron, NY. Both are Syracuse University alumni. My question is - did you ever wrestle Dick Beyer in the AWA or in Japan? My nephew is on the Akron High School swim team and Dick Beyer is his coach.

Did you ever wrestling for Pedro or Ronnie Martinez in the Buffalo, New York area in the late 1960's or early 1970's?

- D. Samuel Weimer

Williamsville, NY

Dick Beyer had a lot to do with my initial training in Minnesota. Yes, I have worked with him in the ring; he is incomparable. Lots of moves and knowledge.

Missed the pleasure of Pedro and Ronnie!

Thanks. BJM

LOGGING THE MILES

You've mentioned how Crockett would book up to three shows a night. Has there ever been a time where you were double-booked for two shows at the same time but in different towns? How did you handle that if it did happen?

- Kay Farmer

North Wilkesboro, NC

Kay, that happened frequently! That’s how our pilot Freddy went from a Piper to a King Air to a Lear! Back in those days all Flair and I did was work and play!

Thanks. BJM

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

Hi Blackjack! I love the website.  I really enjoyed your work in Florida along with the great memories I have of you in the Mid Atlantic area. I was wondering what some of your memories were of the "devil worship" angle you were involved with in Florida with Kevin Sullivan?

- Josh Kesler

Athens, GA

Josh, that was a very serious angle, and the wrong kind of heat! Kevin and I got into it and couldn’t stop it. I had to give my notice for it to end.  Probably killed Florida forever; no way to follow it!

Thanks. BJM

TAKE ‘EM AS THEY COME

My favorite Mid-Atlantic moment is when you and Ric Flair won the world tag titles in 1979 from Baron Von Raschke and Paul Jones. But you only held them for a couple of weeks. Why did the promotion or booker decide to not let you hold them longer? That may seem like a silly question now, but it's something I've always wondered about.

When you and Ric hugged in the ring afterward, it is a moment I'll never forget. Thanks for the memories.

- Danny Walker

Barham, NC

George Scott needed a short-term team, and Flair and I were it. But we were too valuable individually to use as a team. Crockett would run up to 3 shows a night sometimes and needed as singles.

Thanks. BJM

LUCKY TOWN

Who was your favorite to wrestle? And your favorite town to hang out in before and after matches (as in the most fun "free time" town?)

- Andrew Phinney

Lincoln, Maine

Flair, Sammartino, Wahoo, Dusty - all were good money, good draws! Favorite towns were Virginia Beach, VA, and New York City.

Thanks. BJM

SHORT TIMER

I never saw you before being in the MACW area, so my knowledge about your matches are from that era and area only. I can state that I saw you in many feuds and angles, but the Hat and Robe angle was my very favorite. That being said - what was your favorite angle?

BTW, after reading your interview, I can honestly say that you're pure class - you didn't say a negative thing about any of your coworkers - something very rare indeed.

- Ralph Snart

 Fort Collins, CO

The Hat and Robe was certainly one of my favorites. But remember, I also spent some time with Heenan and Lanza, and we did some crazy stuff! Lanza & Mulligan vs. Bruiser and Little Bruiser: I had slammed Little Bruiser off the top rope! Serious heat and angle! 10 sellouts in Chicago and area as well.

Thanks. BJM

CADILLAC RANCH

Hey, Jack! Great website. Glad to see you're up and running. Just wondered what you ever did with that white Cadillac I sold you back in the late 70"s?

- Rich Landrum

Colonial Heights, VA

Wow! Good to hear from you Rich. Hope all is well with you. Regarding the Caddy, I sold it and made a few bucks! Have been buying and selling that old stuff for a few years now.

Thanks. BJM

TOUGHER THAN THE REST

Who was the toughest guy you ever met in the ring as far as something that might have been a shoot?

- Jack Rivers

Cottonwood, CO

There was a guy in South America, Jan Wilkens. Promoter wanted a change but he refused, so we settled it in the ring. He was one tough guy and that was a dangerous situation!

Thanks. BJM
